On Wednesday, 25th February 2026 , stakeholders in the creative industry gathered at Hotel 100 Mbale for a Copyright Awareness Workshop held under the nationwide copyright awareness drive. The workshop brought together musicians, composers, authors, publishers, producers, performers, and radio and TV presenters to strengthen understanding of copyright protection and compliance. Sponsored by the Uganda Performing Right Society and the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, in collaboration with the Uganda Registration Services Bureau, the session focused on: * The importance of joining UPRS as Uganda’s only Collective Management Organization (CMO) * Benefits of membership, including licensing, monitoring, and royalty distribution * Proper registration and management of works to ensure fair payment when music is commercially used The workshop reinforced a shared commitment to protecting creators’ rights and building a sustainable creative industry in Uganda.
