On 27th February 2026, the Uganda Performing Rights Society (UPRS) successfully hosted a Masterclass for Songwriters and Audio Producers at the Next Media Hub, bringing together key stakeholders in Uganda’s music industry for an afternoon of practical learning and engagement.

Protect It” Participants were guided on the importance of: Properly documenting ownership splits 📝 Registering their works ✅ Safeguarding their rights to ensure fair compensation 💰 A representative from the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) provided clarity on copyright registration and filing requirements, while UPRS officials explained membership procedures and how royalties are collected and distributed. INDUSTRY INSIGHTS: Songwriters Association of Uganda (SWAU) Audio Producers Association of Uganda (APAU) These bodies shared knowledge on professional standards, producer documentation, and studio discipline. LEGAL CLINIC SESSION: Split sheets Agreements Dispute prevention 💽 OTHER DISCUSSIONS: Music distribution Publishing administration The masterclass concluded with an interactive session connecting studio creation to royalty payment, reinforcing the importance of structure, compliance, and collaboration* within Uganda’s creative ecosystem.
